The Pope at the White House: Disrespect or Opportunity?

Pope HavanaI too, reposted the articles about the invitees to the Washington reception to my Facebook page with dismay about such disrespect. Later that evening, I found myself listening to God about His plans for such an event…and went to Matthew chapter 9:9-13 The Call of Matthew.

As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew* sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher* eat with tax collectors and sinners?” He heard this and said, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’* I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

I think the White House and others with any agenda of disrespect, will find themselves dismayed when they find that their plan has backfired. They will see the Pope, a living Vicar of Christ, using their plan of disrespect, to teach the word of God through the loving actions modeled right in front of them.

May we remember, that within each of us is the imprint of the God who lovingly created us.
